Research
Professor Zuckerman works on topics related to social cognition, personality and health, and nonverbal behavior. Regarding social cognition, Professor Zuckerman is testing the implications of temporal construal theory with regard to judgments under uncertainty. At issue is the extent to which time influences various inferences and/or biases, including dispositional inferences and the hindsight bias.
Regarding personality and health, Professor Zuckerman is investigating the construct of self-esteem contingency, its antecedents, and its effects on well being. Using longitudinal design, daily fluctuations in affect and self-esteem will be examined as a function of positive and negative daily events. These fluctuations will be related to personality factors as well as to health and well being.
In the realm of nonverbal behavior, Professor Zuckerman is interested in the effects of face and voice on various inferences and level of certainty in those inferences. At issue is whether effects that previous research found for the face are also true for voice and whether face plus voice produce an even stronger effect than what would be predicted by a simple additive function of the two channels.
